Cookie policy
Which cookies and storage tools VeniceAround.it uses: the necessary technical ones and, only with your consent, Google Analytics and Microsoft Clarity statistics cookies. All of them are listed on this page.
In short
Which cookies does VeniceAround.it use?
VeniceAround.it uses first-party technical cookies and tools and, only if you accept, Google Analytics 4 and Microsoft Clarity for aggregated statistics on visits and usability; it uses no profiling or advertising tools. Before you choose, the Google Analytics and Microsoft Clarity scripts are not loaded. In your browser the website stores the choices made in the banner or cookie panel and the state of the language bar; WordPress cookies concern only people who log in to the administration area. Videos from YouTube or Vimeo load only after you click on them. You can change your choice at any time from the "Cookie preferences" link in the footer.
This translation is provided for convenience; in case of discrepancy the Italian version prevails.
Definitions
Cookies, local storage and similar tools
Cookies are small files that a website saves in your browser. The browser's local storage (localStorage) and other tools that read or save information on your device work in a similar way. European and Italian rules treat them in the same way, so this page describes all of them, not only cookies in the strict sense.
A distinction is drawn between technical tools, which are needed to make the website work or to provide a feature you have asked for, and analytics and profiling or marketing tools. Only the latter require prior consent.
Summary
Which tools VeniceAround.it uses
The website, which presents private tailor-made tours in Venice, Italy, is owned by Daniela Zarpellon, VeniceAround by Daniela Zarpellon (VAT no. 03934120241). The website uses first-party technical tools and, only with your consent, two analytics tools:
- no profiling or marketing cookies;
- Google Analytics 4, installed through the "Site Kit by Google" plugin and loaded only after you consent to analytics (details below);
- Microsoft Clarity, installed through the official "Microsoft Clarity" plugin and loaded only after the same consent to analytics (details below);
- Google Search Console, used by the site administrator to check how the website appears in Google search results: it sets no cookies and loads no scripts in visitors' browsers;
- no fonts loaded from Google Fonts or other external servers: the fonts are hosted on our own server;
- no embedded maps, social media feeds or review widgets;
- the technical plugins Rank Math SEO, IndexNow, UpdraftPlus, WP-Optimize, Aruba HiSpeed Cache and Elementor, described in the privacy policy, set no profiling or analytics cookies;
- videos from YouTube or Vimeo, where present, are not loaded until you click on them (see Videos).
The links to Google Maps, WhatsApp, ToursByLocals, the sharing buttons and GiraVicenza.it are plain links: nothing is loaded until you click on them.
Google Analytics 4: how we use it
If you choose "Accept statistics" in the banner, or switch on the Analytics category in the preferences, the website loads Google Analytics 4 through the "Site Kit by Google" plugin. Before you choose, or if you refuse, the Google Analytics script is not loaded at all and no analytics cookie is set; in addition, Google Consent Mode is set to "denied" by default.
- Provider: Google Ireland Limited, Gordon House, Barrow Street, Dublin 4, Ireland, which processes the data on our behalf as a processor.
- Purpose: aggregated statistics on visits (for example pages viewed, referral source, device type, approximate geographic area) and on contact requests: form submissions and clicks on the email, phone and WhatsApp links are counted as anonymous events, without the content of the messages.
- Legal basis: consent (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR and Article 122 of the Codice privacy), which can be withdrawn at any time.
- Our configuration: Google Signals switched off, no advertising features, no ads personalization, no data sharing for advertising purposes. According to Google, Google Analytics does not log or store the IP addresses of users in the EU, Switzerland and the UK: it uses them only to derive an approximate location and then discards them.
- Retention: user-level and event-level data are kept for the data-retention period set in Google Analytics, 2 months (the shortest option available); the cookies last up to 2 years (see the table).
- Transfers: data may be transferred to Google LLC in the United States, which is certified under the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework; standard contractual clauses also apply.
More information is in the Google privacy policy. Besides refusing or withdrawing consent, you can block Google Analytics on all websites with the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on.
Microsoft Clarity: how we use it
With the same consent to analytics ("Accept statistics" in the banner or the Analytics category in the preferences) the website also loads Microsoft Clarity, through the official "Microsoft Clarity" plugin. Before you choose, or if you refuse, the Clarity script stays blocked, is not executed and sets no cookies. When you accept, the website sends Clarity the consent signal (Microsoft's Consent API v2) with analytics granted (analytics_Storage) and advertising denied (ad_Storage).
- Provider: Microsoft Ireland Operations Limited, One Microsoft Place, South County Business Park, Leopardstown, Dublin 18, Ireland. According to Microsoft's documentation, Microsoft acts as a data controller for Clarity data, under the Clarity terms of use and its own privacy statement.
- Purpose: aggregated statistics on how the website is used, heatmaps (where people click and how far they scroll) and recordings of browsing sessions, to understand what is unclear or awkward and improve the website's usability.
- Masked content: text typed into forms and sensitive content on the pages are masked and do not appear in the recordings.
- No advertising use: the advertising consent signal is always denied, Clarity's "Brand Agents" advertising feature is switched off and we do not use Clarity data for advertising or profiling.
- Legal basis: consent (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR and Article 122 of the Codice privacy), which can be withdrawn at any time.
- Retention: according to Microsoft, session recordings are kept for 30 days (favorited recordings and a random sample for up to 9 months); heatmaps and aggregated data for 9 months. The cookies last up to 1 year (see the table).
- Transfers: data may be transferred to Microsoft Corporation in the United States, which participates in the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework; standard contractual clauses between Microsoft Ireland and Microsoft Corporation also apply.
More information is in the Microsoft privacy statement and the Microsoft Clarity terms of use.

Consent
Consent banner and cookie preferences
Technical tools do not require consent: this is laid down in Article 122 of the Codice privacy (Legislative Decree 196/2003, the Italian Personal Data Protection Code) and in the Guidelines on cookies and other tracking tools of June 10, 2021 issued by the Garante per la protezione dei dati personali (the Italian Data Protection Authority). Google Analytics and Microsoft Clarity, on the other hand, are third-party analytics tools: we use them only with your prior consent.
On your first visit the website shows a banner with three buttons of equal prominence: Accept statistics, Only necessary and Preferences. Until you choose, Google Analytics and Microsoft Clarity are not loaded. The Cookie preferences panel shows three categories: Necessary (always on), Analytics (Google Analytics and Microsoft Clarity, off until you switch it on) and Marketing (not used). Every choice is recorded in the consent log, as described on the consent and preferences log page.
You can withdraw or change your consent at any time, as easily as you gave it, from the "Cookie preferences" link in the footer or the button below. After withdrawal Google Analytics and Microsoft Clarity are no longer loaded; any _ga, _clck and _clsk cookies already present can be deleted from your browser settings (see below). Should we ever introduce other non-technical tools, we would update this page first and ask for your consent again.
Videos
Videos from YouTube and Vimeo: loaded only after a click
Some tour pages may include a video hosted on YouTube or Vimeo. Until you press the play button, the page shows only a cover image and a note, and the video player is not loaded: no cookies are set by these services. The cover is normally a photograph from our own website; if none is available, a preview image may be requested from YouTube's image server.
When you click, the player loads from the provider's servers: YouTube in its privacy-enhanced mode (youtube-nocookie.com, Google Ireland Limited) or Vimeo with the "do not track" option (Vimeo.com, Inc.). From that moment the provider may read or store information on your device and process your data under its own policies: Google privacy policy and Vimeo privacy policy. Videos uploaded directly to our website are played from our own server.
Third-party services
External links: what happens when you click
Some pages contain links to external services. Until you click, these services receive no data from our website. Once you click, you open the provider's website or app, which applies its own cookies and privacy policy:
- Google Maps (Google Ireland Limited), for meeting points and directions: Google privacy policy;
- WhatsApp (WhatsApp Ireland Limited, Meta group), to message us: WhatsApp privacy policy;
- ToursByLocals, to read the original reviews: please refer to the privacy policy published on the platform;
- sharing buttons (for example WhatsApp, Telegram, Facebook or LinkedIn), which open the chosen service only when you use them;
- GiraVicenza.it, Daniela's sister site for tours of Vicenza, which has its own policies;
- official websites of museums, sites and public bodies, linked for information.
VeniceAround has no control over the cookies and processing of these services.
Control
How to manage cookies and local storage in your browser
You can delete cookies and site data at any time from your browser settings (usually under Privacy or Security, in the "Cookies and site data" section). Deleting the data for venicearound.it also removes va_consent, va_lb and, if present, the _ga, _ga_<ID>, _clck and _clsk cookies: the website will continue to work, but the banner will be shown again and the language bar will return to its initial state.
The third-party Microsoft Clarity cookies (CLID, ANONCHK, MR, MUID, SM) are deleted by clearing the data for Microsoft domains such as clarity.ms. Blocking WordPress technical cookies only prevents access to the administration area, which does not concern visitors.
Versions
Updates to the cookie policy
